Welcome to The Amazing Flavours of Brazil. A blog about Brazilian food cooked in Australia.
My name is Georgina and I am a food-fanatic and a passionate cook. I am Brazilian-Australian and I am very happy to be able to share my home-country recipes with you. Like many food bloggers, I love the idea of having a blog and do some of the things that I adore the most: writing, creating recipes, cooking and taking photos.
As far as I can remember I always loved cooking and started my first attempts when I was only a child. Over time the more I learnt about cooking and improved my skills, the bigger my passion became. But the turning point for me was when I moved to Australia back in 2002. I was surprised to see that a country so far from Brazil and that I knew (almost) nothing about had so many people that shared the same passion as me. I couldn’t believe my eyes that I was able to find ingredients from all over the world including Brazilian ingredients. Since then, I’ve been learning a lot about cooking, techniques and new flavours in this amazing food lover’s country called Australia. I never watched so many awesome cooking shows and never seen so many great home-cooks and chefs in a single place. The creativity and sophistication of Australian chefs never cease to impress me. Some people say there is not an Australian cuisine but I totally disagree. Australian cuisine is the reflection of the country’s diversity, the creation of exquisite dishes like no other place in the world. No matter where you are from, if you are a foodie and never watched the Food Lover’s Guide to Australia shows (with Maeve O’Meara and Joanna Saville), I highly recommend you do so, and you will never think about food the same way again.
In 2013 I moved to Tasmania and, once again, I was amazed to see what Australia has to offer in terms of fresh produce: Tasmania is a food lover’s paradise!
I like the fact that Australians are open to new food experiences and tastes and I am sure you are going to love to try my Brazilian recipes.
Food is what brings me closer to Brazil. I have been studying about Brazilian food and history for many years. Brazilian food is hearty, rustic and delicious. The beautiful thing about Brazilian food is that it follows the ‘slow-cooking’ philosophy and takes time, a good dose of patience and, of course, passion for cooking.
The basic ingredients used in Brazilian cooking (check here) are easily found in Australian capital cities and online. If you are outside Australia, check your local South American gourmet shops or online.
If you have any questions about the recipes, please feel free to send me a message I am looking forward to meeting other people and talking about food! Now let’s start cooking Brazilian!
